QU Function of Band 3 AE1 in Blood CO2 Respiration Report

Description

Follow the format of the report

Introduction: Describe briefly band 3 and its role in erythrocyte respiration. (1 pt)

Discussion: Discuss the interaction of the components of the CO2-transport metabolon (AQP1, band 3, CAII and deoxygenated hemoglobin) in intra-erythrocytic CO2/HCO3— conversion during respiration. (2 pts)

Conclusion: Explain why aquaporin-1 (AQP1) is a promising regulator in respiration and physical tolerance. (1pt)

Problem Based Learning Questions (PBLQs): Assignment 1 Function of Band 3 (AE1) in Blood CO2 Respiration Each student must turn-in a one page report through SafeAssign (5 pts) by October 15, 2023 at 11:59 pm. Band 3 protein (aka EA1), the most abundant protein in human erythrocyte membrane, plays a key role in Cl-/HOC3exchange during respiration. Our understanding of its physiological functions originated from clinical associations studies. The purpose of this assignment is to revisit the CO2-transport metabolon model and update our understanding of the role of band 3 and other membrane proteins in respiration. https://doi.org/10.3389/fphys.2018.00733 A. Key points to remember during online team discussions: a- Discuss the role of band 3 in CO2 respiration. b- Discuss the dynamics of water transport, which is the other substrate for intra-erythrocytic CO2/HCO3— conversion (an essential step in blood CO2 transport). c- Discuss the current understanding of the dynamic interaction of the components within the CO2-transport metabolon (AQP1, band 3, CAII and deoxygenated hemoglobin) to facilitate blood CO2 respiration. C. Format of the report: Introduction (1/4 page): Describe briefly band 3 and its role in erythrocyte respiration. (1 pt) Discussion (1/2 page): Discuss the interaction of the components of the CO2-transport metabolon (AQP1, band 3, CAII and deoxygenated hemoglobin) in intra-erythrocytic CO2/HCO3— conversion during respiration. (2 pts) Conclusion (1/4 page): Explain why aquaporin-1 (AQP1) is a promising regulator in respiration and physical tolerance. (1 pt) References: Include at least FIVE PEER-REVIEWED REFERENCES (the source of the information you used to write your report) in the following Format: Stanchev S, Stamenov N, Kirkov V, Dzhambazova E, Nikolov D, Paloff A. 2020. Differential collagen expression in kidney and heart during hypertension. Nature 121(1):73-78. Additional instructions: 1. You should write your name, student ID number, section, semester and year at the top of your report. 2. You need to include the subtitles above (Introduction, Discussion and Conclusion). 3. Your report (1 page) should be written using Calibri Font (size: 11) with single space. 4. Please make every effort to make the report your own. Any reports found to have more than 20% matching score will receive point deductions as described below: Matching score between 20% to 30%: 0.5 pts deduction Matching score between 30% to 40%: 1 pt deduction Matching score between 40% to 50%: 1.5 pt deduction Matching score more than 50%: 2.5 pts deduction 5. You should submit a soft copy of your PBLQ2 report without references through SafeAssign on blackboard. 6. You should submit a full soft copy by E-mail by the deadline October 15, 2023 at 11:59 pm. D. Instructions for team leaders: – Each team leader must schedule two online discussion sessions with team members to discuss read paper and assigned materials in order to address the PBLQs. – Team leaders must take attendance of team members, and send the excel sheet as well as minutes of the online meetings to the course instructor at the end of the second meeting. Each member who attends and participates in both meetings will receive 0.5 pts. – Team leaders should monitor both online discussions and take notes of unanswered questions to discuss in class. Note: Team leaders should send me the minutes and attendance of both sessions by E-mail (see attached table of minutes)
