Application Theory Paper Background: Throughout this course you have been exposed to the major theories of personality. For the Application Theory paper, you will be able to apply one of these theories of personality to a fictional character. The fictional character may be from a movie, tv show or a book. This assignment is worth a total of 90 points. Directions: For your paper, you will select one personality theory and one fictional character. Remember, this fictional character can be selected from a movie, a tv series or from a book. Your paper will cover the following areas (Keep in mind that it may be useful to organize your paper into the following sections/headings): ● Introduction (1 Paragraph): Provide a brief overview of the assignment. Remember, each paragraph should be at least 5 sentences in length. ● Brief Review of the Fictional Character (1 paragraph): Provide a brief description of the individual that you will be writing about within this assignment. ● Review of the Chosen Personality Theory (1 page): Provide a brief overview of the personality theory that you have chosen. Remember, you cannot use the same personality theory that you used in your Theory presentation. You are to include at least five major principles of the chosen theory within this section. ● Application of the Chosen Personality Theory to your Fictional Character (1-2 pages): For this section you are to connect/apply your chosen personality theory to your fictional character. Please address the following areas: a. Discuss personality development of your fictional character through the lens of your personality theory. If your chosen theory does not comprehensively explain this area, what is not explained? b. Review how this personality theory addresses gender and culture for your fictional character. If your theory does not address this area, is there another personality theory that you could consider for your fictional character within this area? c. Discuss how your chosen personality theory addresses changes in personality over lifespan for your fictional character. • Theory Reflection (1-2 pages): A section in relation to your thinking/opinion of this theory. This section should include the following: a. Does the theory make sense to you, and do you think it has validity? Why or why not? b. Do you think the theory adequately explains all aspects of personality and how does it do this or not do this? c. What do you think needs to be added to or subtracted from the theory to make the theory more comprehensive and/or valid? d. Discuss whether you think the theory has remained valid over time and if so, what makes it continue to be valid, and if not, why is it no longer valid? e. Any other thoughts you would like to add about the theory. • Conclusion: (One Paragraph): Provide a brief summary of the paper. • Reference Page (on a separate page): APA-formatted reference page with at least 3 scholarly sources (this does not include your textbook) NOTE: You should NOT choose the personality theory that you used for your Theory Presentation. If you choose this same theory, your instructor may ask you to resubmit your assignment, or you may receive a zero for the assignment. You must use at least 3 scholarly sources for your presentation (in addition to your textbook, which you should use sparingly for these papers), and in addition you may use one reputable website reference. Remember to cite any sources you use throughout this presentation as well as having references in your reference section. To not do so is considered plagiarism. Everything in sections 1-4 should have a citation! You should also have citations in section 5 for anything that is not your original idea. This written submission should be in APA formatting (title page, double spaced, paragraph written format). There should be a title page and a reference page for this portion of your submission. The student is expected to submit between 5-7 pages of written content (this does not account for the title page or reference page). You will submit this assignment via Blackboard. Brief Review of the Fictional Character Provide a brief review of your fictional character. This section should at least be 5 sentences in length. Make sure to include important information that you will use later within the paper. This section should be indented, and the paragraph double spaced. Review of the Chosen Personality Theory In this section you will review the personality theory you have chosen. This theory should be different from the personality theory that you chose for your Theory Presentation assignment that was submitted within Week 4. You will include at least five major principles of your chosen theory in this section. This section should be between one to two pages in length. Application of the Chosen Personality Theory In this section you will apply the personality theory that you chose to your fictional character. There are several sections to address within this section. You may want to have several subheadings as formatted here to make sure that you review each section thoroughly. In addition, this section should be one to two pages in length. Personality Development 3 Review each of these subsections thoroughly. You will want to make sure that you use the personality theory language for each section. Work to have each paragraph be at least 5 sentences in length. Gender and Culture Review each of these subsections thoroughly. You will want to make sure that you use the personality theory language for each section. Work to have each paragraph be at least 5 sentences in length. Lifespan Review each of these subsections thoroughly. You will want to make sure that you use the personality theory language for each section. Work to have each paragraph be at least 5 sentences in length. Theory Reflection As with the previous section you may wish to use subheadings to help organize your paper. This section should be at least one to two pages in length. If you do not use subheadings, make sure to thoroughly address each of the bullet points that are within the assignment description. Conclusion Your conclusion should provide a brief summary of the paper. The conclusion should be at least a paragraph in length. Each paragraph should be composed of at least 5 sentences. 4 References Include your references on a separate page. Make sure your references are in APA Format!
