Drug addiction and the crime that is related to it places a significant burden on American society as well as significantly challenging all law enforcement, correctional, and judicial resources. A recent report indicated that more than 19 million Americans use drugs on at least a monthly basis, and roughly 7 million of these users meet the clinical requirement for needing drug treatment. Approximately 3.8 million users were dependent on or addicted to illicit drugs. The total economic cost to society due to illegal drug use is estimated in excess of 181 billion dollars.  Please respond to the following questions in an essay containing NO LESS than 200 words.   1. Would legalizing drug use, registering users, provided drugs by prescription to those registered users, and dispensing the drugs from only certain carefully controlled, licensed, (possibly government sources) be a feasible solution to the problem? Why, or why not?
  2. Why should alcohol abuse be considered an illness and drug abuse be considered a crime?
  3. Do you think that victimless crimes should be legalized?   Why, or why not?
  4. If you could, which drug would you legalize and why?
