Supplement blog

In the United States, dietary supplements are big business with billions of dollars spent on supplements. We have been learning that nothing in nutrition is “good” or “bad” unless you also consider the amount and more is not always better. In this blog, you are to explore the topic of supplements and critically compare “beliefs” about supplements with valid nutrition information

The directions for this blog are a little different than the carbohydrates, fats and proteins, so please read closely.

Remember that your blog should be about 500-700 words long. You will need 2 valid references (while you may use your book for some of the discussion, you need 2 other valid sources and 1 needs to be a peer reviewed journal article).

To do your blog will require including 2 topics.

First, many people believe that a multivitamin supplement will provide all of the vitamins and minerals that a person needs for a day. To see if this is true, find a label for a multivitamin and mineral supplement (MVT). this can be from what you take, or go on the internet. You can choose a general MVT such as One a Day or Centrum, or you can use more focused such as GNC Mega Men, Multivit Gummies for Women, etc. Read the section in the book that discusses who needs a multivitamin supplement and what to look for in a supplement. Then compare your label with the recommendations. Does the supplement provide 100% of all needed vitamins and minerals? Which vitamins and minerals are higher? which are lower than 100%. After you have considered the text recommendations, discuss how that supplement meets or falls short of the recommendations.

Next, identify 1 belief that you had about supplements that you might now be questioning. Examples include: energy drinks give you energy, Vitamin C keeps you from getting a cold, a calcium supplement is just as good as drinking milk for strong bones, taking vitamins can keep you from getting cancer, people who take supplements live longer, etc. Clearly describe what you had heard or thought about the topic that you now question. Summarize the information about the topic that is presented in the book and compare and contrast what you previously thought.

For this topic – find 2 sources of valid information that address is topic. Summarize the information from the source. Provide citation to the valid information. This means that you need at least 2 valid references and one needs to be a peer reviewed journal article

Important step: Discuss how you will apply the information that you have learned.

Reflect: When considering a research topic, consider an interesting topic that is worth further research. For instance, having a strong opinion on a specific topic may deter you from thinking more critically, and therefore the research might end up being one-sided. It is a good idea to pick a topic in which you can provide a good argument for both sides of the societal issue.

Write: For this discussion, address the following prompts:

Identify a global societal issue from the following list that you would consider researching further for your Week 5 Final Paper:
Aging population
Critical Thinking Skills for the 21st Century
Gender Inequality
Global Climate Change
Global Water Shortage
Marginalization and Minorities
Refugee Crises
Children’s Rights
Social Media Censorship
Describe effective methods you used in identifying and narrowing down to just one of the topics to further research for your Final Paper.
Explain three ways you can critically analyze sources to determine if they are scholarly.
Summarize information from at least two scholarly journal articles from the Ashford University Library that will support your claims for your chosen topic.
Explain why scholarly sources should be used to support your writing on the selected topic.
Download and attach a PDF copy of one of the peer-reviewed scholarly articles that you found from the Ashford University Library to your answer using the “Attach” function located below your response.
Your post should be at least 350 words

This assessment task prepares you to access a patient in your care and identify those at risk. Select an ‘at risk’ patient for analysis and write a brief summary of the patient’s relevant health problems and any management provided.
Critically analyse one health problem using evidence based findings relating this to the ‘at risk’ status of the patient. Consider any system failures that may have contributed to the presenting problem and the relationship to communication pathways. The cases you read and discussed in MyLO are examples of an “at risk” patient. Your discussion should include the complexities of health care decision making and its relationship to inter-professional communication pathways.
You must clearly demonstrate the related pathophysiology and management that contributed to the patient’s condition. Laboratory findings should be included if relevant to the case. Expand and justify management by identifying and discussing key nursing and medical interventions, including clinical assessment, physiological monitoring, supportive therapies and evaluation of the care provided. Justify and critique the relevant nursing interventions by drawing on recent, evidence-based literature and propose recommendations for future practice if indicated. The paper should include a minimum of 10 scholarly references to support your discussion points.
Maintain patient confidentiality by assigning the person a pseudonym and abide by your organisations ethics policy on using patient information. You should also maintain organisational anonymity.
There will be an example paper in MyLO for you to read. Please note this is an example only and assessment requirements have been altered. Use it as a guide of where you need to aim to receive an HD. Please read the marking criteria carefully to ensure you are meeting all elements.

State A Scientific Hypothesis And Design A Basic Experiment N Which You Will Test The Effect Of An Acidic Fluid On Enzymatic Activity.

*Please note- you will not be conducting the experiment, you will only come up with an idea for an experiment and explain the experiment. ****

Applying the scientific method design an experiment in which you will test the effect of an acidic fluid on enzymatic activity. (Recall: enzymes are proteins.) As you design your experiment for this project, please remember that you are trying to examine how an acidic fluid will modify the outcome of an enzymatic reaction. In your experimental design, you must clearly explain what you are doing. That means that you will need to identify the enzyme and the acid, as well as explain your experimental protocol (this information will help you to answer question 2). You must also thoroughly explain how the addition of the acidic fluid impacted the overall reaction process

You may need all or some of the following, depending on your experimental design:

Materials from your lab kit:

pH paper

hydrogen peroxide solution (you can purchase this at a pharmacy if you have used up the bottle that came with the lab kit)

plastic beakers or cups

vinegar

yeast (can be purchased at grocery store if you need more)

balloons

plastic bottle

marker for labeling of beakers

You may choose to use additional materials (different acidic solutions and/or different organisms and/or different substrate(s) if you chose to look at an enzyme other than catalase).

Cultural Considerations in Mental Health Nursing

Question
Submit an evidence-based practice paper about cultural competency in mental health nursing. An evidence-based practice paper allows you to explore best practice and help improve client outcomes on a psychiatric unit. Your paper should describe how you, as a nurse, will include – or have included – cultural awareness in a client diagnosed with a mental illness. The person you describe could be someone in your clinical setting, someone you have worked with in the past, or a theoretical client.
Remember that culture can also include gender equality, sexual orientation, and other cultures besides race and religion – including cultures unique to one particular family. Your paper should be at least 3 pages (double-spaced, not including the title or reference pages) in APA Format and include:
Assessment: Discuss what you would assess in regard to a client’s culture. For example, are there specific dietary requirements? Are schedule changes necessary to avoid conflicts with religious practices? Who is the spokesperson for the family? What would you assess?
Diagnosis: List any mental health nursing diagnoses this person has or may be at risk for. Include at least one cultural diagnosis.
Planning: What planning needs to be done to ensure the cultural and emotional safety of the client?
Implementation:What are interventions that would ensure the safety of your client in regard to culture? Include at least two interventions. For example, if your client has religious beliefs that affect the ability to take medications, what interventions would you create to ensure the client’s safety? What can you do to make sure the client’s cultural needs are met?
Evaluation:How will you evaluate whether your implementation was effective? Make sure the parameters are objective and measurable.
In your summary, discuss whether any completed interventions were successful. What could be done differently in the future? If the interventions have not yet been carried out, you might discuss some institutional changes that could be made to ensure cultural safety for all clients in that setting.
Your paper should utilize proper APA guidelines and include at least three scholarly sources to support your paper.

Pharmacotherapy For Endocrine And Musculoskeletal Disorders

APA style with citation, needs 3 credible sources reference not later than 2013.

Discussion

Patients with endocrine and musculoskeletal disorders often require long-term treatment and care resulting in the need for extensive patient education. By appropriately educating patients, advanced practice nurses can assist patients with the management of their disorders. In clinical settings, patients with endocrine and musculoskeletal disorders typically seek treatment for symptoms that pose problems to their everyday lives as ordinary tasks may become difficult to complete. For instance, patients might have difficulty walking short distances, preparing meals, or even running errands. To reduce these symptoms and additional health risks, it is essential to develop drug therapy plans with individual patient factors in mind.

To prepare:

-Select one of the following endocrine or musculoskeletal disorders: thyroid disease, osteoarthritis, rheumatic arthritis, gout, multiple sclerosis, or fibromyalgia. Consider the types of drugs that would be prescribed to patients to treat symptoms associated with this disorder.

-Select one of the following factors: genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, or behavior. Reflect on how this factor might impact the effects of prescribed drugs, as well as any measures you might take to help reduce negative side effects.

With these thoughts in mind:

By Day 3

Post a description of the endocrine or musculoskeletal disorder you selected including types of drugs that would be prescribed to patients to treat associated symptoms. Then, explain how the factor you selected might impact the effects of prescribed drugs, as well as any measures you might take to help reduce negative side effects.
