I want to talk about the difficult and good times that happen in the 1920’s. From what I have learned from history is that bad events happen such like the prohibition, murders, organized crime, Ku Klux Klan, WWI was finally over, growing fears of terrorists, women had the right to vote, cultural conflict, great depression and the list goes on. How did the people fight and overcome such hard times in life? Do we have similar conflicts in todays world that we are fighting that may be a repeat on history? A problem like a drug and homeless problem in the world and crime in our country, what are ways we can prevent things like this from happening?

After taking office, Roosevelt took swift action, stabilizing banks, providing direct assistance to the unemployed, and creating New Deal agencies like the AAA and NRA to coordinate agricultural and industrial recovery. Even though the economy got better unemployment was still high. So Roosevelt established other programs that made jobs for millions on public projects. Today it is hard to see any kind of innovation like this from our President or government. We could use this type of thinking in our country. What do you think was the most significant or lasting impact of the New Deal programs and reforms implemented under Franklin D. Roosevelt? What do think our country do today to improve one of those programs or reforms?

Governments globally, including the United States, have implemented diverse stimulus measures to counteract the economic impact of lockdowns and disruptions. These discussions have unfolded around the appropriate extent of government intervention, echoing historical debates about the role of government in crafting solutions during times of economic upheaval.

How do today’s discussions on government intervention echo the historical debates about handling economic crises? What lessons can we learn from the past to navigate the current economic challenges?

Identify five major SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the United States) cases that took place from 1950 to the present that changed the Constitution and, as a result, affected education. Hint: All SCOTUS cases change the Constitution in some way, as it is a new interpretation. Look for cases that involved education in some respect. This is not about choosing your personal hot-button cases unless they relate in some way to education.

Create a new timeline in paragraph form and include these events with specificity, no less than five full sentences or bullet points on each case.

Write an essay about the United States between 1865-1960s based on your learning in this class (Units 1 & 2) and your own research.

There is no single history of the U.S. during a particular time period. Even your textbook chooses what to include and what to leave out of a chapter or topic. While we should all demand that history be based on verified primary source material, every historian chooses what they think are the most important things to include in their story. You are the historian now. What do you think are the most important issues, events, and/or ideas during that time period? Write about at least three different issues/events/ideas.

For your article analysis assignment, you will summarize and analyze the assigned article (The Rich Bitch) as well as provide media examples of the analysis.

The format will be the following:

1) Summarize the reading.

2) Select 3 key themes/terms highlighted in the reading. Analyze and discuss the key themes/terms. Your analysis of each key theme should be at least 3 sentences long, you may go beyond this if needed. Please use full sentences. Title this section “Key Themes” before providing the key themes.

3) Provide 2-3 applied media examples that illustrate the key themes. Provide the media clip
and discuss how it is connected to the readings. (Provide 2-3 applied examples in total, not for each key theme). Title this section “Media Examples”.
