Adolescent Healthcare

Teenagers go through varied physical, mental, emotional, and social changes. In today’s society, these adolescents face a range of developmental issues. Utilizing your learning from your readings and the South University Online Library, respond to the following questions:

In your opinion, what are the two most important factors that influence adolescent development?
In the Western culture, there are a variety of health services available for adolescents. What is missing in Western society that would benefit health promotion for adolescents?
How do the health problems faced by adolescents impact their health and wellness in their lifetimes?
Discuss how you would take the sexual history from an adolescent. Which areas would you need to address during your discussion with an adolescent?
.Adult family members, community leaders, religious and faith

groups, institutions and peers all influence young people and

their health and development Gender stereotypes also interfere with the professional judgement of health

workers concerning the sexual, reproductive and mental health both of adolescent

girls and of young people whose sexual orientation remains uncertain.

Associated sex-role stereotypes prevent women from even knowing they experience

discrimination, sexual coercion, exploitation or abuse

Poor adolescents bear a disproportionate burden of the health problems in their age group. Indicates a strong association between poverty and the health status of adolescents and between poverty and adolescents’ use of health services. Similar disparities between rich and poor adolescents are seen for indicators such as early marriage, skilled attendance at birth, use of contraception, and knowledge of HIV/AIDS transmission, and these disparities tend to be greater for adolescents than for older women (Lule et al., 2006).

Comparing Frameworks for Analyzing Organizations

Discussion: Comparing Frameworks for Analyzing Organizations

Avedis Donabedian’s work generated a pivotal means of assessing organizational performance relative to structure, process, and outcomes. However, it is clearly not sufficient to view health care quality merely in terms of outcomes—the structures and processes that facilitate these outcomes are equally as important.

In this Discussion, you consider multiple frameworks that can be used to analyze an organization. As you proceed, consider how these frameworks allow you to examine the interplay of interdependent and related parts and processes that comprise the systems within an organization, as well as the arrangements or structures that connect these parts.

To prepare:

Investigate and reflect on the systems and structures of an organization with which you are familiar. Consider the following:

What is the reporting structure?

Who holds formal and informal authority?

How many layers of management are there between the frontline and the highest office-holders of the organization?

How are interdisciplinary teams organized?

How is communication facilitated?

How well integrated is decision making among clinical personnel and administrative professionals?

How are particular service lines organized?

Which departments, groups, and/or individuals within the organization are responsible for monitoring matters related to performance, such as quality and finances?

Select two of the following frameworks:

Learning organizations, presented in the Elkin, Haina, and Cone article

Complex adaptive systems (CAS), presented in the Nesse, Kutcher, Wood, and Rummans article

Clinical microsystems, presented in the Sabino, Friel, Deitrick, and Sales-Lopez article

Good to great, presented in the Geller article

The 5 Ps, presented in the ASHP Foundation article

Review the Learning Resources for each of the frameworks that you selected. Also conduct additional research to strengthen your understanding of how to use each framework to assess an organization.

Compare the two frameworks. How could each framework be used to identify opportunities to improve performance? In particular, how would you use each of these frameworks to analyze the organization that you have selected?

By Day 3

Post an analysis of the systems and structures of the organization you selected, sharing specific examples. Explain insights that you gained by comparing the two frameworks, and how each can be used to assess an organization, identify a need for improvement, and, ultimately, enhance the performance of an organization.

Euthanasia and/or physician-assisted suicide for non-standard reasons, such as non-terminal conditions (pain, disability, depression, free choice, etc.)

Field: Psychology

Report Issue
Topic: Euthanasia and/or physician-assisted suicide for non-standard reasons, such as non-terminal conditions (pain,

disability, depression, free choice, etc.)

Final Paper 1500 to 2000 words in length
Please read these assignment instructions before writing your paper, and re-read them often during and after the writing process to make sure that you are fulfilling all of the instructions. Please also utilize the assignment guidance and the outlined model provided.

By engaging with the course material, you now have had a chance to refine your thinking and broaden your understanding of the problem by approaching it from the perspective of multiple ethical theories.
In this paper, you will demonstrate what you have learned by writing an essay in which you
•Present a revised formulation of the ethical question and introduction to the topic.
•Explain the kind of reasoning you think is the best way to approach this question, and how that reasoning supports the position you think is strongest.
•Raise an objection, and be able to respond to it.
Instructions
Write an essay that conforms to the requirements below. The paper must be 1500 to 2000 words in length (excluding the title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined
The paragraphs of your essay should conform to the following guidelines:
• Introduction
Your first paragraph should begin with the topic question, suitably revised. It should be focused, concrete, and on a relevant moral problem. You should then introduce the topic in the way described by the Week One instructions, but reflecting the developed understanding and information you have gained about the topic and any necessary refinement of the scope.
Follow this with a thesis statement that states your position, and a brief description of the primary reason(s) supporting your position. (See the handout on thesis statements provided). Finally, provide a brief preview of the overall aim and procedure of your paper.
• Explanation and Demonstration of Moral Reasoning
This section of the Final Paper will explain and demonstrate what you believe to be the best way of reasoning about the question you have chosen, and showing how that reasoning supports the position you have taken on the question. You might explain the principles, rules, values, virtues, conceptions of purposes and ends, and other general ideas that you find persuasive, and show how they support concrete judgments.
In the course of doing so, you must make reference to at least two of the approaches that we have examined in the course (such as deontological, utilitarian, or virtue-based), and utilize at least one resource off the provided list for each of the two approaches. One of these theories may be the theory you discussed in your Week Three Assignment, but your discussion here should be more refined.
For example, you might find the reasoning associated with Aristotelian virtue ethics to be the most compelling, and reference Aristotle in the process of showing how that reasoning supports a certain conclusion. In the course of this, you could contrast that with a utilitarian approach, referencing Mill for instance.
• Objection and Response
After explaining the ethical reasoning that supports your position, you should raise an objection and respond to it. An objection articulates a plausible reason why someone might find the argument weak or problematic. You should explain how it brings out this weakness, and do so in a way that would be acceptable to someone who disagrees with your own argument. Then, provide the best response you can to the objection, showing how it does not undermine your position. Your response should not simply restate your original position or argument, but should say something new in support of it.
• Conclusion
Provide a conclusion that sums up what you presented in the paper and offers some final reflections.
Resource Requirement
You must use at least four scholarly resources. Two of the resources must be drawn from the list of acceptable primary resources on each of the two theories you discuss. For example, if you discuss deontology and virtue ethics, you would need at least one resource under the “Deontology” list and at least one resource under the “Virtue Ethics” list. The other two may be from either the Required or Recommended Resources, or scholarly resources
•The textbook may be cited, but it does not count toward the resource requirement. If you cite the textbook, you will still need to cite at least four more sources that fulfill the requirements stated above.
•If you need help with finding additional resources, or are unsure about whether a particular resource will count toward the requirement, please contact your instructor.
•For sources to count toward the resources requirement, they must be cited within the text of your paper and on the reference page. Sources that are listed on the references page, but not cited within the paper, do not count toward fulfilling the resources requirement.
Brief breakdown
The Final Paper:
•Must be 1500 to 2000 words in length (excluding title and reference pages), and formatted according to APA style
•Must include a title page with the following:
◦Title of paper
◦Student’s name
◦Course name and number
◦Instructor’s name
◦Date submitted
•Must begin with an introductory paragraph that has a succinct thesis statement and statement of procedure.
•Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
•Must end with a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.
•Must make meaningful reference to at least two of the ethical theories studied in the course.
•Must use at least four scholarly resources that fulfill the stated requirements.
•Must document all sources in APA style,
•Must include a separate reference page, formatted according to APA style

Workbook Project 3-5: Query an online Data Source to Measure Performance

In this project, you will learn how to query an online database of patient satisfaction ratings an report the results. Go to the Comonwealth website, Why Not the Best (http://whynotthebest.org) and use the search function to retrieve the data you need to creat your report. Choose a hospital in your region. Follow the directions for Project 3-5 and submit your report by the established due date.

Assignment Comments: You can access the data to complete the report without signing up for an account on the site. However, the account is free and you will be able to download the data set (you will only be able to view the results if you do not sign up for an account). To get all data populated on the page, first choose your hospital and then use the “add benchmark” options to include state and the “add benchmark” to add national data.

Transformational Leadership:

Describe the role of leadership within teams. What are the primary reason teams fail? What can be done to ensure team success? Give a personal example of team success.

Week Four Lecture

Chapter 12

Transformational Leadership: What does this mean to each of you? Do you know anyone that you would consider a transformational leader? Is this a style that you would consider your own leadership to fall under? There are several definitions out there on what a transformational leader would be.

According to Ozzaralli (2003), “leaders who create a dynamic organizational vision that often necessitates a culture of values to reflect greater innovation” (p. 337).

According to Rouche (1989), another definition would be “transformational leadership in terms of the ability of a leader to influence the values, attitudes, beliefs and behaviors or others by working with and through them in order to accomplish the organization’s mission and purpose” (Sasiadek, 2006, p. 37-38).

Lastly as determined by Byham and Cox (1994), “transformational leadership behaviors are related positively to several important organizational outcomes, including perceived extra effort, organizational citizenship behaviors and job satisfaction” (Sasiadek, 2006, p. 39).

As you can see there are many definitions of transformational leadership. One of the basic elements here is that these are dynamic leaders that go beyond just leading, but actually share their values and beliefs and help others to be a part of something great that will lead to the outcome desired. Who can you think of that would be a transformational leader? Some that come to mind are Oprah Winfrey, President Ronald Reagan and Bill Gates.

Below is a video on a Transformational Leader. As you watch this, see if you can identify the elements that set Oprah apart from the other leadership styles discussed in our readings this week.

Oprah Winfrey- A Transformational Leader (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. (http://youtu.be/9zDMoj7D3b8)

Servant Leadership: Can anyone be a servant leadership? Do you have to be in a leadership role to be a servant leader? This is a leader that gives everything they have to serve the greater good. Who can you think of that fit this type of leadership style? How about Jesus Christ, Harriet Tubman and Abraham Lincoln.

According to Ramsey (2003) and Sasiadek (2006), there are ten ways to accomplish servant leadership. They are as follows:

1. Get to know every employee as a unique human being. Know their names, something about their families, their lives, their interests and what makes them individual.

2. Manage, while walking around, to see what needs to be done in order for employees to have higher productivity. This is not to catch them doing something wrong, but more or less a reinforce.

3. Practice open management; keep employees fully informed. Tell the truth and nothing but the truth.

4. Model productive behavior. Lead by influence.

5. Make empowerment more than a cliché. Delegate real decision making authority.

6. To be a teacher, mentor, coach and cheerleader.

7. Buffer employees from undue pressure, distractions, or interruptions.

8. Give employees many choices and second chances.

9. Provide growth opportunities for all employees.

10. Become a prospector for resource. Find a way to get whatever your work needs to succeed (Sasiadek, 2006, p. 36).

Below are two videos that will also help illustrate servant leadership. The first one is a really interesting one that many will be able to relate to. See what you think and if you are able to connect the first one on the list above to this video.

Authentic Leadership Profile – Gandhi (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. (http://youtu.be/HChw11UUJEQ)

Authentic Leadership: Authentic leadership is one that is very interesting and yet very confusing. There are several areas between the servant leadership that cross over into authentic leadership. For example; one of the videos below describes Gandhi as an authentic leader, yet his style of leadership was certainly that of a servant leader. So how can we distinguish the difference between the two?

According to Nayab (2010), “the major difference between servant leadership and authentic leadership lies in approach, application and style” (para. 1).

The core principle of servant leadership is to give priority to the interest of others. The primary duty of the leader is to serve others by fulfilling their needs, aspirations, and desires. Authentic leadership, on the other hand, does not encourage the leader to be too responsive to the desires of others. Going overboard to meet the desires of each individual creates problems such as:

· Organizational goals suffering due to competing interests

· Danger of deviating from course of action

· Leader not making difficult decisions due to fear of offending (Nayab, 2010, para. 12).

Please review the video on the assignments page under the discussion section as it will provide you with an opportunity to immerse yourself in the role of a nurse addressing tobacco use during routine patient care. In doing so reflect on what you have learned about tobacco use and the role that nurses and other interdisciplinary team members play in helping to assist tobacco users with quitting. While viewing it is also important to keep in mind that tobacco users move through stages of change in the process of quitting. They move from pre-contemplation to contemplation contemplation to preparation; preparation to abstinence; abstinence to maintenance. Every stage requires a different strategy by a nurse.
After watching the video and reflecting on the information presented address each of the following questions.
