Demand for safe, high-quality, and effective health care services

As health care delivery in the United States continues to evolve, either through mandates, improved technologies and training, or other drivers, nurses remain at the forefront in facilitating the success of new initiatives. In 2010, the Institute of Medicine formed a committee of experts to address the following question:

“What roles can nursing assume to address the increasing demand for safe, high-quality, and effective health care services?”

ORDER A PLAGIARISM-FREE PAPER

In the final report of the committee, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, the authors stated:

This report offers recommendations that collectively serve as a blueprint to

(1) ensure that nurses can practice to the full extent of their education and training,

(2) improve nursing education,

(3) provide opportunities for nurses to assume leadership positions and to serve as full partners in health care redesign and improvement efforts, and

(4) improve data collection for workforce planning and policy making. (p. 10)

For this Discussion, you will focus on the research recommendations presented by the committee concerning the role of nurses as leaders. The committee members believe that answers to these research questions are needed to advance the profession of nursing and to further expand their role in health care reform and improvement. Nursing: demand for safe, high-quality, and effective health care services.

To prepare:

•Review Chapter 7 in The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health report provided in the Learning Resources. Focus on the information in Box 7.3, “Research Priorities for Transforming Nursing Leadership.”

(I am leaning toward one of these 2 – • Identification of the characteristics of mentors that have been (or could be) most successful in recruiting and training diverse nurses and nurse faculty. • Identification of the influence of nursing on important health care decisions at all levels.)

•Select one of the research priorities listed in Box 7.3 that is of particular interest to you and applicable to your career interests. Consider the benefits and challenges of researching and addressing this priority in nursing.

•Using the Walden library, identify two to three current articles that address your selected research priority. Consider the current state of research efforts on this priority. Nursing: demand for safe, high-quality, and effective health care services.

•Reflect on how the research findings for your area of priority impact nurses as leaders in organizations and health care reform. Why is research on this priority important?

Post a description of the priority you selected and the benefits and challenges of further researching this area. Provide an overview of the articles you found (using appropriate APA citations) relating to this priority, and highlight any key findings. Explain how continued research in this area could strengthen the ability of nurses to lead in both individual organizations and as advocates of health care reform. Nursing: demand for safe, high-quality, and effective health care services

Striving for Value

Welcome to my first post on my new Nursing Education Expert website! Thank you for taking time to check out my Blog and Pages. Hopefully you have already been to my About page and gotten a quick impression of who I am. So let’s talk about why you should be interested in the information you will find here.

I found the Einstein quote on a list of inspirational quotes complied by Kevin Kruse in Forbes magazine (http://www.forbes.com/sites/kevinkruse/2013/05/28/inspirational-quotes). I thought about how perfect it was to define the purpose of this website.

My goal is to create a site that will provide high-quality value to those of you in nursing (or medical) school and in clinical practice. Content is planned that will enhance your knowledge of topics and issues important to your clinical practice and professional lives.

I will do my best to provide you with the most current evidence and best practices regarding the topics we’ll talk about. A key objective would be for you to be able to apply this knowledge to discipline-related problems and issues.

Value will come from me in many forms: via podcasts and show notes, resources for practice, and blog posts, to start. In time, content will be offered in other formats too. A free newsletter for mailing list subscribers will be launched to alert you to postings, podcasts, reviews, clinical and professional information, career advice, and educational resources available and planned (e.g., webinars, tutorials, etc.). Be on the lookout for that opt-in mailing list!

Value will also come from you – I consider all who participate on this site – podcast listeners, blog readers, commenters, (and me) – to be part of a learning community. All learners are respected and valued. I hope to facilitate your learning – and learn with you! I’m looking forward to getting to know you through your comments and interactions with me.

I want to give you a reason to come back to this site – to listen to the podcasts, to read informative blog posts, and join in the discussions. If I can do that, then providing value in this way will be the definition of success for me.

Blog Post and Podcast Series Plan (updated 4/2017)
I will offer blog posts, podcasts, and videos of information for nursing students and practicing nurses. Each month I will try to focus on a specific theme based on topics such as Nursing Research, Nursing Theory, Advanced Practice, Applied Evidence-Based Practice (EBP), Leadership, and Productivity. The blogs and series of podcasts will provide both introductory and advanced content. I’ll also do a Q&A post once a month for career and expert advice. Let me know what your questions are!

Lots of stuff is planned, so stayed tuned!

So that’s it for my first blog post. I’m taking the advice of multiple podcasters (I’ll share who later) to Take Action! I have put off launching this site because my tendency is to wait until everything is perfect – with pages that have posts, podcasts, and other content loaded. However, I’m (slowly) learning to let go a little. I’ve taped this saying to my computer screen so I can see it every day: Perfection is the enemy of the good enough.

So here it is and I’m hoping this post is more than good enough for now. I’ll continue to add to the site, but for now, this blog is started!

I really appreciate you reading this far! If you like what you are reading, I’d be grateful if you shared this post and this site with your friends by clicking on the Share buttons on the page.

Sign up for my free newsletter! It comes out once a month on the 5th and will recap highlights from the website and provide other information.

(What Manager Should Say: The main points I got out of this video are active listening, do not put others down, and use positive language. I think that all of these are important aspects in leadership, especially active listening. I always try to listen to my nurses and have an “open door” policy. I have found that literally keeping my door open leads nurses to just pop in and say hi when they have the change or to ask questions. By being an active listener, more nurses come to me with concerns then other house supervisors because they trust me. I have also learned that it is important to be very careful of your choice of words. I was speaking with a colleague and made a comment about another person. In my mind it was not a negative comment but the person I was speaking to went right away and told the other person what I said. Needless to say that ended up in an awkward confrontation. That experience has taught me to choose words wisely. )

Part 3
A balance sheet equation is a statement that shows the state of a business at a particular time by computing assets, liabilities, business capital and balancing income over expenditure (Balance Sheet, 2016). The equation is a crucial part of accounting as it forms the element for entire double entry accounting scheme.
The equation starts with assets. Assets are all the resources that companies use to achieve its goals (Riggs, 2007). Assets may be long term or short term. Short-term assets include cash either solid or liquid form, inventories, and account receivable. Long-term or fixed asset includes machinery, tools, vehicles and all other properties. In most cases, the fixed assets are not fully owned by the business. This suggests that a loan might have been taken to purchase a vehicle, a mortgage on a construction, or even used money from shareholders. All these loans are taken into consideration in the liability section of a balance sheet equation (Halpin & Senior, 2009).
Claims on business assets by the financial institution, other companies or people is called liability. It is fully guaranteed that a running business has a debt somewhere and ignoring this concept would lead to misleading business accounts (Consolidated Balance Sheet, “ n.d). Mortgage and loans are examples of long-term liability while debts in terms of notes payable, accounts and accruals are short-term liabilities.
The third part of the equation is equity. Capital also referred as equity is shareholders claim on the company properties. Money contributed by owner at the start of the business or shareholders for a proprietorship ticket is accounted for here (Riggs, 2007). Equity also accounts for returned earnings that are money held in the business to be reinvested.
The summation of claims by shareholders and claims by debtors gives total company assets.
Assets = Liabilities + Equity
