The Family and Community Medicine Division of a large-staff model HMO serves a population that is ethnically diverse. The senior management team of the HMO, spurred by repeated complaints from representatives of one racial group, has encouraged the division, all of whose physicians are white, to diversify. Several black and Hispanic physicians with strong credentials apply for the open positions, but none is hired. Weeks later, a young female family physician learns from several colleagues that the division director has identified her as racist and the obstructionist to recruiting. The comments attributed to her are not only false but are also typical of discriminatory statements that she has heard the division chief utter. The rumors about her “behavior” have circulated widely in the division.

A manager who reports to the Vice President for Clinical Affairs (VPCA) of a tertiary-care hospital hired a young woman to supervise development of a large community outreach program. During the first four months of her employment, several behavioral problems came to the VPCA’s attention: (1) complaints from community physicians that the coordinator criticizes other physicians in public; (2) concerns from two community leaders that the coordinator is not truthful; and (3) written reports about the project that label and blame others, sometimes in language that is disrespectful. The VPCA spoke several times to the manager about these problems. The manager reported other dissatisfactions with the coordinator’s performance, but he showed no sign of dealing with the behavior. The core lectures are still given but at different times that do not match with the dental-curriculum schedule. The anatomists insist that they don’t have time to teach another course specifically for dental students.

This issue first came to light six months ago. At that time the partners met with him, clarified the Medicare guidelines, and outlined the threat to the practice for noncompliance. Care Clinic Scenario: The Executive Team of Care Clinic prides itself in the care that is provided to the community of Summerville, Florida. The Clinic is known for holistic approach to the individuals served at the clinic as well as presenting various community outreach programs. Annually, the Executive Team of Care Clinic reviews the client satisfaction benchmark results related to client service and quality indicators. The scores have substantially decreased in the past 12 months in the categories of client satisfaction and quality care.

To assist in understanding the quality issues related to client care occurring within the Care Clinic, you are provided with two videos of client situations that have been recorded using Second Life. You are also required to enter Second Life to observe actions and conversations occurring within the Care Clinic. When viewing the videos and participating within the Care Clinic located in Second Life, consider yourself to be the manager and identify quality care issues consistent with decreasing client satisfaction scores. From your leadership perspective, determine how the declining benchmarks can be addressed and improved. The Industrial Revolution, which began in the eighteenth century, has had an ongoing influence on society as well as the relationship between humans and their environment. With the onset of industrialization came the drastic increase in urbanization, setting up of factories in places which were once biomes, and the rapid development of land. All this occurred without assessing the long-term impact to the environment. Recognizing the importance of the Industrial Revolution era and the ongoing impact it has had on the environment is essential to learning how to help the environment and correct the damage of that era.

Using the readings for this module, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, complete the following:

Identify three of the most environmentally negative impacts of the Industrial Revolution and justify your choices. For example, the invention of the automobile revolutionized travel in a positive manner. However, this invention is causing some of the biggest environmental problems as a result of the extensive use of oil extracted from the earth.

Examine how these three negative impacts changed the environment; list the mechanisms through which this happened. For example, factories caused an increase in pollution through the release of toxic waste, which led to diminished and lost fish populations in rivers.

Explain the effect of the environmental movement on the process of industrialization in the United States during the 1970s.

Identify the laws passed to help ameliorate the environmental issues in the U.S. or around the world related to these three impacts. Have any laws been passed since this movement in the 1970s? Statistical interaction can happen in a two-way ANOVA. It is possible for variables to work independent from one another within a study. When this happens, there is a need to consider the interaction between the variables. A statistical interaction occurs when the effect of two variables working together causes a greater change or a lesser change, than is anticipated. The variables are somehow dependent on one another. You will have to know the levels of each variable to understand the effect on the data. The independent variables are creating a greater effect on the dependent variable. The independent variables are not affecting each other. The study for exercise 18, researchers collected data from family members regarding level of care in Hospice with LPC, hospital with LPC, and hospital without LPC. The family members did not report a change in the level of care within the hospital with LCP vs. hospital without LCP comparison. When the hospice vs. hospital with LCP or the hospice vs. hospital without LCP groups were compared, there was a significant difference. Differences in the level of care was indicated by the p < alpha. LCP and hospice, and LCP and hospital seem to interact with the level of care (Grove & Cipher, 2017).

Interaction is a kind of action that occurs as two or more objects influence one another. The idea of a two-way effect is essential in the concept of interaction, as opposed to a one-way causal effect combination of many simple interactions can lead to surprising emergent phenomena. Interaction has different tailored meanings in various sciences. All systems are related and interdependent. Every action has a consequence.

In statistics, an interaction is a special property of three or more variables, where two or more variables interact to affect a third variable in a non-additive manner. In other words, the two variables interact to have an effect that is more than the sum of their parts.

For example, two of my friends are on weight loss program. We're evaluating 2 different diets and 2 different exercise programs. One focused on cardio and one focused on weight training. We want to determine which result in greater weight loss. We randomly assign participants to either diet A or B and either the cardio or weight training regimen, and then record the amount of weight they’ve lost after 1 month.
